Good Shepherd Agencies
The Sisters run ministries across the United States, including sponsored, jointly sponsored and affiliated ministries. These ministries are domestic violence shelters, programs for troubled girls, residences for women in recovery, post abortion counseling and various other services for those on the margins of society.
|
The National Advocacy Center is the voice and lobbying arm of these Good Shepherd Agencies at the federal level empowering those on the margins and working to lessen their burdens through policies and laws.
The Sisters have long recognized that beyond working in solidarity with people living in poverty and on the margins, to effect long-term change, change must occur at the policy and legislative levels. Agencies work downstream with individuals affected by poor policies, while NAC works upstream on those issues to affect policy changes. |
At NAC, we amplify the Good Shepherd voice by linking the ministries and services of the Sisters, lay associates, and lay staff around the country to speak up and work for change in the structures of society.
|
Together, we hope to prevent more people from falling through the cracks, going hungry, suffering in silence from abuse, being unnoticed or unheard.
Change cannot happen without the actions of dedicated individuals and organizations who are committed not just to justice in the big picture but to the growth and flourishing of the individual. Are you working at an agency? Are you a client? Join Us & Sign Up |
Good Shepherd Agencies
Sisters serve in dozens of outreach ministries in the communities where they live, such as serving homeless people in the marginalized Tenderloin district in San Francisco and also ministering to adults with disabilities and supporting long-term hospital patients in San Francisco.
Good Shepherd also has a presence in Oregon, for instance, working with families with mental illness and providing online therapy and Zoom-based spiritual direction. |
Separately, the Sisters sponsor ministries across the country and in Canada including shelters, counseling, conflict resolution, educational programming.
Finally, Sisters maintain relationships with affiliated ministries that they no longer operate but that remain committed to the Sisters' core values of mercy, reconciliation, individual worth, and zeal. |
