Cover
the Uninsured Week 2005 - May 1-8
45
million Americans lacked health insurance in 2003 - and the numbers continue
to grow as health care costs and insurance
premiums rise. Uninsured families and individuals often go without needed medical care and struggle to pay medical bills when
they do receive it. Even people with insurance face rising co-payments and fewer companies are offering health coverage
to their employees. These are all symptoms of the serious health care crisis our nation is facing and Cover the Uninsured
Week is designed to bring the issue into a broader public debate. A wide variety of activities are planned around the
country to which you can lend your presence or your voice in calling for universal affordable health care for all!
Participate in community events, call the local offices of your Senators and Representatives, write a letter
to the editor, or hold a special prayer service to highlight the need for action to address the state of health care in our
nation. Local events and actions are listed at the Covered the Uninsured Week 2005 website. We've also provide a variety of resources below (sample letters to Congress and to editor, a suggested prayer
service, and several links for information) to help you find a way in which you feel you can participate.
