          CORRECTION FROM LAST WEEK

Many thanks to everyone who responded to last week’s alert on the budget—a good number of letters were sent from our action website. Unfortunately, technical problems left the wrong version of the letter up on the site. The problem has now been corrected and we hope that those who sent letters last week will try again. Action is still very much needed on the budget as recent rumors suggest that House leaders are considering passage of a longer-term “continuing resolution” and forcing a new Congress to fix THIS year’s budget problems.  This continuing resolution would leave many programs without adequate funding and serves as a real example of this Congress “cutting and running” from its fundamental budgetary responsibility.

Congress is in recess for the next two weeks, but will return in December to make the final budget decisions. Your current members of Congress need to hear from you that they still have a job to finish and that they should do it right!

          ACTION NEEDED

1) Write your Senators and Representative and urge them to finish the budget THIS year with additional funding for human needs programs. The correct letter is now available on our action website for you to edit and send. (Click on “Final Budget Decisions” for the correct letter).

2) Write a letter to the editor of your local newspaper urging Congress to fulfill its budget responsibilities and prevent further cuts to critical social services.  A sample letter is available on our website for you to download and edit. Also, check out our Advocacy Handbook for more letter writing tips.

          HAPPY THANKSGIVING!!!

At the National Advocacy Center, we approach this Thanksgiving with gratitude for all of you and for the hope that your ministry and advocacy gives to so many in your communities and throughout the world.  We are also grateful for our many advocacy partners, such as the Center of Concern, from whom we again provide you with a short prayer service.
